Pavilion
The New Zealand Pavilion at EXPO 2020 presented the country’s identity through a narrative centred on environmental responsibility and connection to nature. Based on the theme “Care for People and Place”, the pavilion reflected the Māori concept of kaitiakitanga, representing guardianship and protection of the environment.
Visitors were guided through a sequence of immersive environments that combined projection, sound and interactive elements. From the introductory space with interactive projections to the central exhibition areas and final immersive rooms, the experience explored New Zealand’s natural heritage, cultural values and environmental vision.
The pavilion combined storytelling and technical systems to create a continuous and cohesive visitor journey.

BeWunder delivered the audio and video systems across the pavilion, supporting multiple immersive and interactive exhibition environments.
The installation included projection-based spaces, LED screen elements and synchronised audio systems integrated throughout the visitor journey. Particular attention was given to the coordination of audio and visual elements across different zones to ensure a consistent experience.
A key feature of the project was the development of a synchronised audio sequence representing a pulse travelling from the façade through the interior spaces. This required precise system integration and programming to align sound, movement and visual elements across the pavilion.
The delivery required close coordination with multiple stakeholders over an extended project duration, ensuring that all systems were integrated and operated reliably in line with the overall concept and design intent.
