For Perrotin Gallery’s opening at ICD Brookfield Place Dubai, renowned Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami presented his first exhibition in Dubai. The exhibition featured a wide range of sculptures, paintings and installations, showcasing some of his most recognised works.
Among them was the Murakami. Flowers series, a hybrid NFT project inspired by 1970s Japanese video game graphics. Each piece was built around the number 108, referencing the Buddhist concept of bonnō, representing material and earthly desires. The series combined 108 backgrounds, 108 flower colours and 108 fields, forming one of Murakami’s most recognisable works.
In contrast to the gallery’s raw architectural setting, the exhibition also included a lifelike miniature sculpture of the artist, Murakami Mini Arhat, adding another layer to the overall experience.

BeWunder delivered the technical lighting systems for the exhibition, working closely with Perrotin Gallery, ICD Brookfield Place and the curatorial team to ensure that the lighting approach supported the artistic intent of the exhibition.
The lighting design was intentionally clean, minimal and precise, removing distraction from the surrounding environment and allowing full focus on the artworks themselves. Each piece was carefully lit to highlight its form, colour and detail while maintaining consistency across the gallery space.
In addition to the installation, BeWunder provided technical maintenance and servicing as well as operational support throughout the three-month exhibition period, ensuring consistent performance and presentation of the artworks.
