The Austria Pavilion at EXPO 2025 Osaka explored the relationship between music, technology, and spatial design under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”
Its architectural centrepiece, a large spiral structure made of stacked wooden elements, guided visitors through the exhibition and reflected Austria’s strong connection to music and cultural heritage. The experience translated this identity into an interactive journey where sound became the primary medium of engagement.

BeWunder delivered the multimedia and lighting systems for the pavilion, with a strong focus on the development and integration of a large-scale interactive audio environment.
Working closely with the exhibition concept, the systems were designed to place sound at the centre of the visitor experience, enabling real-time interaction and participation. A key element of the project was the implementation of a 100-channel audio system, creating a spatial sound environment that responded dynamically to visitor input.
The scope included the integration of audio systems, video systems, lighting systems, media servers and playback, show control systems, and event IT networks, ensuring all systems operated as one coordinated technical environment.
The result was an immersive and responsive sound-driven experience, where visitors actively contributed to the evolving composition of the space.
